The COVID-19 virus affected the engineering industry in unprecedented ways. There was a strong decay that started in April 2020. In the blink of an eye, activities just ceased. What was happening was so severe that it dragged the electrical connector market with it. And, shortly after, began an era marked by low demand and shortages in supply.

After all the tribulations, in 2021 came a return to normalcy for the electrical interconnectors market, which saw an encouraging rise in demand. According to Bishop & Associates’ specialized market forecast, the world connector industry grew by 24.3% in 2021 alone. From 2021 to 2022, the growth trend continued, increasing by 7.8%.

Post-pandemic, the demand for electric connectors has been coming from leading markets in the renewable energy, construction, and automotive sectors. All of which currently rely on advanced electrical systems to sustain quality in power generation, transportation, and distribution to the intelligent grid. Hence the continuous demand for high-performance/next-gen connectors.

The renewable energy applications for the electrical connector market go beyond massive power grids. They now include HEV-EV vehicles and metering for solar-powered homes.

In construction, interconnectors continue to be the principal pieces utilized for developing and updating infrastructure serviced by high voltage transmission cables.

As for the automotive industry, their evolution in design now calls for devices that support enhanced reliability, safety, and digitalization. For that reason, manufacturers created smart connectors with complying features, such as EMI/RFI suppression, versatile miniature connectors, UL recognized, and RoHS-compliant connector solutions.

All in all, I would say that the future looks bright for the market for interconnectors. They remain essential devices that allow smooth operability in electrical systems.
